East Union approves raise for officer-in-charge, mulls new stun guns
SHEPPTON – East Union Township’s interim top cop is getting a sizable pay increase, township supervisors approved Monday night.
Supervisors voted 2-0 with Supervisor Jill Careyva abstaining to give Officer-in-Charge Doug Litwhiler a $6.50/hr pay bump.
Litwhiler was named Officer-in-Charge on Oct. 24 upon the resignation of Chief Chris Dimmick.
Attorney Donald Karpowich said Dimmick was paid $33/hr while Litwhiler gets $21.50/hr.
Supervisors discussed what duties Litwhiler is now taking on in considering the pay increase.
Litwhiler is currently working full-time-equivalent hours.
Supervisors Vice-Chair Wendy Danchision raised a motion to increase Litwhiler’s pay to $28/hr, seconded by Supervisors Chair Kyle Mummey.
In other business, supervisors considered replacing the police department’s two stun guns.
Litwhiler said they are outdated and on their last legs. Replacements would cost $11,000, he said.
As the matter was not on the agenda, supervisors tabled it until December.
Supervisors also voted to upgrade the township’s computer and server systems at a cost not to exceed $12,500.
