East end fire ruled arson; fourth since Dec. 30
SHENANDOAH – Thursday morning’s blaze in a vacant home on Shenandoah’s east end has been ruled arson, the fourth intentionally set fire since December 30.
State Police at Frackville said the fire at 215 East Cherry Street began in the attic and was ruled arson.
Firefighters were first called to the home, which has been vacant for several years, around midnight.
When crews arrived, smoke could be seen venting from the eaves of the roof and firefighters made quick work of the blaze.
No injuries were reported.
State Police Fire Marshal Joseph Hall was on site Thursday to investigate and determined the fire began in the attic and was intentionally set.
Anyone with information should call State Police at Frackville at 570-874-5300 and ask for Hall or Deputy Fire Marshal John Szczyglak.
Thursday’s fire is the fourth arson since Dec. 30, and fifth suspicious fire in a vacant structure.
On Dec. 30, firefighters tackled a house fire on West Arlington Street, which was ruled arson.
Firefighters also tackled arson fires on Furnace Street and Grant Street this year, along with a suspicious fire at an abandoned colliery building behind Boyer’s.
