Dump truck downs traffic light post at Gold Star Plaza
TURKEY RUN – A temporary traffic light trailer is en route to Gold Star Plaza and a turn lane is closed after a dump truck took down a traffic light here Tuesday afternoon.
Borough Police Patrolman Adam Bernodin said, just before 2:00pm, Joseph Sheetz, of Freeman, was travelling southbound along Route 924 in a dump truck and had forgotten to lower the box after a delivery nearby.
The box caught the light post for the southbound lanes, taking the pole down.
The pole came down across the right turn lane exiting the Gold Star Plaza, scattering traffic light debris along the merge lane.
The traffic light is owned by the owners of the Gold Star Plaza, and a company from the Ephrata area was contacted to repair the light. In the interim, they are bringing a temporary traffic light trailer, borough manager Tony Sajone said at the scene.
Borough Police, assisted by Frackville and West Mahanoy Township Police, directed traffic for about an hour before borough workers arrived with additional stop signs for the remaining lane exiting the plaza.
While the traffic light is out, the intersection is a stop sign-controlled intersection, as a permanent stop sign already exists exiting the plaza, borough police said.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
