Driver transported after Mahanoy Township accident

MAHANOY TWP. – One person was taken to a Schuylkill County hospital after a single vehicle crash outside Mahanoy City Saturday evening.

The crash happened around 10:00pm on Morea Road near the former Corsicana Bedding facility.

Mahanoy Township Police at the scene said a Hyundai Sonata was headed east towards Route 54 when the driver, whose identity was not released, lost control and hit a tree.

The vehicle suffered severe damage, and the driver was taken by Ryan Township Ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital in Coaldale for treatment.

The driver was on his way home from work, police said.

The vehicle was towed from the scene by Steve’s Towing of Shenandoah.

Responding were firefighters from Mahanoy City’s West End Fire Co., police officers from Mahanoy Township and Mahanoy City, and medical personnel from Shenandoah and Ryan Township.
