Downtown Tremont ravaged by overnight blaze

TREMONT – A portion of the central business district here is in ruins after flames ripped through a row of buildings late Sunday night.

Flames broke out in the unit block of East Main Street around 11pm Sunday.

Heavy fire enveloped the rear of the Dee’s Flowers building at 22 East Main Street in the borough and spread west.

Several alarms were struck, bringing firefighters from across Schuylkill and upper Dauphin counties to the scene to assist Tremont firefighters.

At least four buildings were damaged from 16-22 East Main Street, including Randazzo’s Pizza.

The buildings were mixed-use, housing businesses and apartments.

As of 4am Monday morning, firefighters remained at the scene.

Responding were crews from Tremont, Donaldson, Joliett, Muir, Tower City, Frackville, Englewood, Pine Grove, Ravine, Wiconisco, Lykens, Minersville, Pottsville, Schuylkill Haven, and more.

No injuries were immediately reported and it is not clear how many people are displaced.
