SHENANDOAH – Continuing a longstanding tradition at Shenandoah Valley, a homecoming queen was crowned Friday night at halftime of the Panther Valley – Shenandoah Valley game.
Ten girls were on this year’s homecoming court at SV, and one was selected by the student body at the high school as queen, that was senior Victoria Donovan.
Speakers Paige Konnick and Rebecca Adorno announced the homecoming court members as they walked midfield between SVHS and Alumni Band members and cheerleaders.
After each had been announced and lined up along the sideline facing the home bleachers, the two began to announce the winner, held before announcing the name, counted off three seconds, then proceeded, drawing a host of cheers.
Donovan hugged her escort, Brandon Zamudio, and was then approached by last year’s homecoming queen Melissa Chinchay, who crowned Donovan as the new homecoming queen.
The traditional homecoming parade and float competition was also held this year. The candidates, in cars, trucks, and SUVs, paraded through town along with the band, cheerleaders, youth football and cheer organizations, fire department apparatus, and floats designed by each SVHS class.
This year’s float theme was blockbuster movies. The Freshman float was Jaws, the Sophomores had Titanic, Juniors had Indiana Jones, and Seniors had Jurassic Park.
The results of the float competition were as follows:
1st – Seniors
TIE 2nd – Sophomores and Juniors
3rd – Freshmen
