Delano man killed, Hazle Twp. man flown after crash
VULCAN – A Delano man was killed in a crash between a minivan and a truck on the Morea Road near here Thursday.
Thomas Flaherty, 65, of Delano, was identified as the man killed in the crash.
State Police at Frackville said the crash happened around 3pm near 1220 Morea Road in Mahanoy Township.
Flaherty was driving a 2009 Dodge Caravan east on the Morea Road when he left the roadway, struck a sign, crossed back over the road and struck a Peterbilt tractor trailer.
The rig, driven by Michael Perchak, 70, of Hazle Township, then drove down an embankment.
Flaherty was pronounced dead at the scene.
Perchak was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest near Allentown.
