Delano gets $66k state grant to rehab park
DELANO – The state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources announced today that Delano Township has been awarded a $66,000 state grant to rehabilitate the township park.
The announcement came along with $52.5 Million towards 225 recreation and conservation projects across the state.
“Our Commonwealth has incredible outdoor spaces – and for me, there’s no better place to be than on a Pennsylvania trail,” Governor Josh Shapiro said in a media release. ““Our local parks and natural spaces are hometown treasures in our neighborhoods – in urban cities and rural towns alike.”
Delano Township’s grant will include the construction of a pedestrian walkway and parking area, installation of play equipment, ADA access, landscaping, and other improvements.
The grants are administered by the DCNR’s Bureau of Recreation and Conservation and Community Conservation Partnerships Program (C2P2). Funding comes from the Keystone Fund, which is generated from a portion of the realty transfer tax; the Environmental Stewardship Fund; the ATV/Snowmobile Fund generated through fees for licenses; and federal monies.
Delano’s grant was the only one awarded in northern Schuylkill County, though grants were awarded to Hazleton and Shamokin as well.
Hazleton received a pair of grants, one for $330,000 to rehabilitate Pine Street Park, including renovating the basketball court and multi-purpose field; and another for $37,000 to prepare a master site development plan for Columbus Court Park.
Shamokin received a $22,900 grant to prepare a master site development plan for Volunteer Park and a feasibility study for a pedestrian/bicycle bridge to connect that park with Claude Kehler Park.
