DCNR, local firefighters battling brush fire near Quakake
KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - Firefighters line West Main Street in Quakake on May 16, 2023, as crews battle a brush fire.
QUAKAKE – State Forestry firefighters are containing a brush fire along the mountainside between Quakake and Lofty at this hour Tuesday.
Firefighters from Hometown, Delano, Ryan Township, and McAdoo were first called to the area of West Main Street and Isgantis Street in Rush Township.
Smoke could be seen from the Interstate and surrounding areas.
Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) firefighters also responded along with various forestry units from the county.
Units remain on scene as of 3:30pm and have the fire largely contained at this point.
No structures are threatened.
Also on scene are units from Ryan Township EMS and the Reading and Northern Railroad Police.
