Crashes plague I-81 Friday

MAHANOY/DELANO TOWNSHIPS – State Police at Frackville today released information on three vehicle accidents which occurred on a snowy Interstate 81 on Friday.
The first occurred just after 9:30am near the Mahanoy City exit, when a 2010 Freightliner Cascadia, driven by 51-year-old Harjinder Heer of Laval, Quebec, lost control, jackknifed, and struck the guardrail at the on-ramp.
The tractor-trailer came to a rest jackknifed and facing west, after damaging 50 feet of guardrails.
D&B Towing of Hazleton assisted at the scene.
An hour later, around 10:45, a 2013 Cadillac ATS, driven by Rita Brooks, 60, of Harrisburg, Dauphin County, lost control at mile marker 136.2 in Delano Township, sliding off the eastern berm.
The vehicle struck the guardrail, and suffered heavy front end damage.
Neither Brooks nor two teenage passengers were injured in the accident, and Nothstein’s Towing, of Tamaqua, assisted at the scene.
Finally, at noon, a 2012 Freightliner Cascadia travelling northbound, driven by Sanlake Chomchat, 45, of Lakewood, CA, lost control at mile marker 131 in Mahanoy Township, jackknifing and striking a guardrail end.
The tractor trailer came to a rest in the roadway, blocking the roadway for just under an hour.
