Crash knocks out power for parts of Lost Creek, Girardville; closes Route 54

LOST CREEK – Route 54 was closed between Girardville and Lost Creek, and nearly 400 PPL customers are without power as of 5:30pm after a vehicle accident Monday afternoon.

The crash happened around 4:30pm in the 600 block of Mount Olive Boulevard in the West Mahanoy Township village.

West Mahanoy Township Police Chief Marvin Livergood said no one was hurt in the crash.

He said a Ram pickup headed east towards Shenandoah lost control in the midst of heavy rains from a severe-warned thunderstorm.

The pickup left the roadway, struck a utility pole, and rolled several times.

The driver was unharmed and was picked up at the scene by a relative. They were the only occupant in the truck.

According to PPL Electric Utilities’ outage map, 392 customers are without power as of 5:30pm in parts of Lost Creek, William Penn, Connerton, and Girardville. PPL expects to restore power by 10:30pm tonight.

Firefighters from William Penn and Altamont assisted at the scene, along with Frackville EMS. Girardville Fire Police closed Route 54 on the Girardville side.
