County zoners approve parking exception to allow notary in Mahanoy
MAHANOY CITY – A proposed notary in Mahanoy City received approval from the Schuylkill County Zoning Hearing Board to operate without off-street parking Wednesday evening.
Nicholas P. Manyko, III requested the special exception for his storefront property at 301 East Pine Street, across 3rd Street from the Mahanoy City Borough Hall.
The property was originally a butcher shop decades ago, and more recently an appliance store.
Zoning requires a certain amount of off-street parking for commercial uses, thus necessitating a special exception.
Manyko was present at the hearing and said the notary will be operated by a tenant, Mildred Perez, who currently provides housecalls.
Perez had two customers on-hand to testify to the benefit Perez has provided and will provide to the community, noting that there are no other notaries in town.
Zoning board members asked about available parking in the area, as well as traffic.
Member Frank Zangari made a motion to approve the exception, which was seconded by David Ambrose and approved 3-0, with chairwoman Mary Jo Moss also voting affirmatively.
