Council approves purchase, demolition of collapsing West Arlington home
SHENANDOAH – A collapsing West Arlington Street home will soon be demolished.
Monday night, Borough Council approved the purchase of 207 West Arlington Street for $1 from the county repository list.
The home — which has been abandoned for at least 10 years and had trash, along with two beds, piled on its porch — collapsed at the rear of the home last week, adjacent to the backyards of neighboring occupied homes.
According to the Schuylkill County Parcel Locator, the home is owned by Mike Umbenhauer, of White Haven, and has been since 1988.
Along with the purchase, council also approved a related resolution to submit a demolition request to the county for $15,000 by Kass Contracting.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the porch had been cleared of trash and debris and its porch roof had been removed. The rear of the structure had also been stabilized.
