Coronavirus-related cancellations and adjustments
NORTHERN SCHUYLKILL – The following is a compilation of cancellations and adjustments related to coronavirus precautions in our area.
Shenandoah
Greater Shenandoah Area Historical Society basket auction postponed to a later date, organizers said.
Vernalis Restaurant has adjusted their hours and will be offering takeout and delivery service only until further notice.
As of Tuesday, March 17, their hours of operation will be:
Sunday 9 a.m.- 2 p.m.
Monday 9 a.m.- 2 p.m.
Tuesday 9 a.m.- 2 p.m.
Wednesday – Closed
Thursday 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Friday 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Saturday 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Shenandoah Little League has postponed tryouts and all other activities until further notice.
Redner’s Warehouse Markets has adjusted their operating schedule as of March 16. Stores will open at 6am and close at 9pm. The store chain says the new hours will help effectively maintain stock and clean stores, while giving associates proper rest.
The Pizza Shop in the 100 block of South Main has adjusted their operating hours and will only be open for delivery and takeout until further notice.
Their new hours are:
Wednesday 4:00-9:00
Thursday. 4:00-9:00
Friday: 3:00-10:00
Saturday. 4:00-9:00
Sunday. 5:00-9:00
They will be closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
Shenandoah Valley Mini-THON is postponed, the student organization said in a tweet.
Shenandoah Borough Hall will be closed to the public until further notice.
The Rescue Hook and Ladder Co. has cancelled their Coach Bingo, originally set for the end of March.
Tickets will be honored at their next bingo in November. Any returned tickets will be put up for resale.
Mahanoy City
Mahanoy City West End Fire Company has cancelled their Tuesday Night Bingo until further notice, and has postponed their Sportsman Bingo and Super Jackpot Bingo until June 7 and June 20 respectively.
Additionally, their Purse Bingo and “An Evening with a Psychic Medium” are cancelled. Ticket holders are asked to contact 570-778-6118 for their cancelled Psychic Medium tickets.
The fire company’s Unbaked Pizza Sale is still on for every Friday in Lent.
The Mahanoy City Public Library will be closed for two weeks, effective March 13.
Mahanoy City Borough Hall is closed to the public until April 1.
“All essential workers will be in place and citizens can contact the borough office by phone with any concerns that can’t wait until April 1st and we will evaluate them on a case by case basis,” borough officials said in a release.
Frackville
The Frackville Elks Lodge has cancelled their Pork Chop Supper, originally set for Wednesday, March 18, due to concerns from members and the community.
The lodge will be closed for the next 14 days, and all events up until the end of March will be cancelled or postponed.
The Good Will Hose Co. has cancelled their monthly cheesesteak sale. The next sale is set for April 16.
Ashland
Ashland Borough Hall will be closed until further notice.
“Staff will be available by phone to provide any assistance necessary,” the borough wrote. “Utility payments may be paid via mail or by placing payments in the mailbox in front of borough hall.”
Girardville
Girardville Borough Hall is now closed to the public. Borough officials said a clerk can be reached via telephone between 7am and 3pm.
Altamont
The Altamont Fire Company’s All You Can Eat Breakfast for March is cancelled as a precaution tied to the coronavirus outbreak.
The fire company’s fish fry, though, will be open for takeout and free delivery in the Greater Frackville Area.

Pottsville
The Schuylkill County Historical Society is closed until further notice as a precaution regarding the coronavirus.
In addition, Lori Quinn’s presentation, originally set for 6:30pm March 25, is postponed.
Ringtown
St. John’s Lutheran Church is suspending activities at both their Ringtown and Brandonville churches as a precaution related to the coronavirus. Their lunch program, however, will still continue as long as need be.
The Ringtown Area Library has cancelled all classes, workshops, and library programs for the remainder of the month of March.
In addition, the library will be closed through at least March 29.
Lavelle
The Lavelle Fire Company is closing their premises to the public temporarily. As of March 17, their Wing Night for March 21 and Fish Dinner for March 27 are still on, but as take-out only events.
The fire company is expecting to reopen March 24.
Tamaqua
The Citizens Fire Co. of Tamaqua has cancelled their bleenie sale, originally set for Friday, March 20.
Additionally, their social club will be closed for the remainder of March.
Columbia County
Beaver Township Fire Co. will still host their fish dinner on April 3 from 4pm to 7pm, though the event will be takeout only. Cost is $15 a meal, $7 for children 10 and under.
Regional
The Diocese of Allentown has cancelled all public masses across their service area to limit the spread of Coronavirus.
Service Electric Cablevision is waiving late payment fees and is closing their office lobbies and drive-thru windows until further notice. Additionally, usage-based billing is suspended for all Internet tiers.
Kutztown University and Bloomsburg University are moving to all-online classes for the remainder of the Spring semester. Students at Kutztown received move-out instructions via email.
State-run Wine and Spirits stores will be closed until further notice, effective 9:00pm March 17.
PennDOT Driver’s License Centers will be closed for two weeks, effective Monday, March 16.
