Coal Cracker 10k set for June 8 in Shenandoah

SHENANDOAH – The date is set for the oldest road race in Schuylkill County.

The 2019 edition of the Coal Cracker 10k, the 39th annual, will be held on June 8, beginning in downtown Shenandoah and traversing the Shenandoah and Mahanoy Valleys.

Registration will begin at 7:30am at the Polish American Fire Company on West Centre Street. A Fun Run, for kids 12 and under, will begin at 9am and the 10k at 10am.

This year’s event is being hosted by a newly-formed Coal Cracker 10k committee in conjunction with Healthy Shenandoah. Previously, the event was organized by the Shenandoah Flites Running Club, and organizers Tom Talerico and Dan Lewis.

Entry fee for the 10k is $20 before May 24, and $30 after. For the FunRun, cost is $5. Online registration is available at

50+ different awards will be given out.

The race has garnered a reputation for being among the toughest road races in the region.

A pierogie party, sponsored by Mrs. T’s, will bookend the event.
