Chill Out to change ownership for next season

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - Chill Out is seen on the Gold Star Highway in Mahanoy Township on Oct. 6, 2025.

SHENANDOAH – When an ice cream parlor on the outskirts of town reopens next Spring, it won’t be a venture of the family that built the business more than a decade ago.

The Decusky family announced Monday that Chill Out Ice Cream Parlor, on the Gold Star Highway in Mahanoy Township just over the Shenandoah borough line, will be transferred to another local family.

They will be transferring the business to the Zamudio family, owners and operators of La Casita de Familia in downtown Shenandoah.

“We so loved serving you all with great quality and the best work family anyone could ask for,” the Decusky family said in a statement. “We are tremendously blessed.”

“We are truly confident that Chill Out will continue with the same friendly service, excellent products, cleanliness as always,” they said.

Bob and Anna Marie Decusky opened the business in 2014 on the site of the old Gold Star Auto Barn.

Since then, it has been a popular spot for folks across northern Schuylkill County to get ice cream or a snack in the summertime.
