Charges withdrawn against contractor accused of taking payment for incomplete roof repair

SHEPPTON – A Carbon County contractor is no longer facing charges after he was accused of taking payment for a job that wasn’t completed.

Felony home improvement fraud, theft by deception, and deceptive business practices charges were withdrawn last week against Brian Jude Cosgrove, 36, of Lehigh Township, Carbon County.

East Union Township Police had filed those charges against the contractor after he had entered into an agreement with Dennis Antonelli, Sheppton, in June of 2022 to repair the roof of Antonelli’s Sheppton home.

Police had said Cosgrove and Antonelli communicated regarding the repair, and Cosgrove had taken full payment for the job — $4,481.16 — in July and said the job would be done in a week and a half.

Minimal work on the job had been done between then and the end of the year, leading to the filing of felony charges in February.

Those charges, filed in Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker’s Shenandoah courtroom, were withdrawn after a preliminary hearing on April 6.
