Centralia council commends group for recent clean-up
CENTRALIA – At Monday night’s regular meeting, Centralia Borough Council commended a south-central Pennsylvania group for a recent clean-up in town.
Councilman Stephen Hynoski said a car club from the Lancaster area performed the clean-up.
“They came two Saturdays and they cleaned everything up,” Hynoski said.
The group, whose name Hynoski did not have available Monday, brought multiple dumpsters to town, which were filled on Railroad Street. Dozens of tires were also collected in a box truck and hauled away by the group.
“There were tons of them,” Mayor Bonnie Hynoski said of the tires collected.
In other business, council reviewed the list of bills, which included the light bill for the Christmas light display. Bonnie Hynoski also reported that the borough received a $25 donation from the Gunoskey family of Barnesville.
The meeting, held in the borough office at the Municipal Building, lasted three minutes.
Contrary to misconceptions spread nationally by bloggers, YouTubers, and more, Centralia borough is still a functioning municipality with monthly council meetings.
According to the state, five people remain, four of whom are involved in borough government. Each month, those residents gather to pay the town’s bills and keep its government functioning, passing a sign reading “Keep Centralia on the map.” One could say their civic duty is their part in doing just that.
