ALLENTOWN – Churches in the Diocese of Allentown will toll their bells Friday at noon in solemn commemoration of Pope Francis.
Bishop Alfred Schlert directed the tolling in a memo to priests, asking that the bell be tolled 88 consecutive times, if possible, for each year of Pope Francis’ life on Earth.
At 12:15pm Friday, the Diocese will hold Memorial Mass for the Pope at the Cathedral of St. Catharine of Siena in Allentown.
At 6:30pm, Schlert will lead in vespers as well.
All are invited to attend both the Mass and the Vespers. The Mass and Vespers will be livestreamed on the Diocese news website, AD Today, and on the Diocese’s YouTube and Facebook channels.
