BREAKING: Inferno envelops southside homes
SHENANDOAH – Firefighters from across Schuylkill and neighboring counties are battling a blaze that decimated a home and spread to at least two others on Shenandoah’s southside.
The blaze broke out in the 400 block of West Poplar Street around 3:45am Thursday.
Firefighters arrived to find flames showing from the rear of 426 West Poplar Street.
Fire quickly enveloped the home, leading to the collapse of the rear portion. The glow could be seen from across town.
A second alarm was struck and water supply issues prompted a third alarm tanker task force to be called.
A fill site is operating at the Shenandoah helipad on East Washington Street. Tankers will be shuttling water from there to a portable pond at Gilbert and Cherry Streets.
Be alert if you’re out-and-about this morning.
The fire was brought under control by 6:45am though crews are still on scene.
This is a developing story. Stay with the Sentinel for updates.
