MAHANOY CITY – Mahanoy Area’s boys basketball team rolled on in a key Schuylkill League Division 1 matchup Tuesday night as they hosted the largest school in the county.
The Crimson Tide of Pottsville Area came into the Mickey Holland Gymnasium at Mahanoy Area at 7-4 (4-2 Schuylkill D1), looking to hand the Golden Bears (11-0, 5-0 Schuylkill D1) their first regular season loss since 2023.
The first quarter was all Mahanoy Area, with the Bears taking a 15-4 advantage into the second.
Pottsville came back swinging, nearly tying the game midway through the second quarter at 18-17.
Six points separated the squads at the halftime break, 26-20 in Mahanoy’s favor.
Mahanoy Area regained control in the second half, taking the victory 62-47.
The Bears have clinched their spot in the District XI 3A playoffs and are on a road trip for the next four games, beginning at Blue Mountain.
