Borough reinstates fired cop in split 4-3 vote

SHENANDOAH – While Shenandoah is losing a full-time police officer to the township, they are reinstating another full-time officer whose employment has been in a back-and-forth limbo since September.
Council voted 4-3 to reinstate the ex-officer whom they did not identify. The only police officer who was fired and could be subject to reinstatement would be ex-Captain Cody Applegate, who was fired in October. He had previously been demoted then, days later, the demotion was rescinded.
Solicitor Shane Hobbs said the officer’s attorney proposed the reinstatement.
Councilman Joe Gawrylik made the motion, seconded by Council Vice-President Mike “Zeckie” Uholik.
Gawrylik, Uholik, Diane Korenda, and Council President Joe Boris voted yes.
James Burke, Katie Catizone, and Michael Whitecavage voted no, with Whitecavage emphasizing his vote as a “hard no.”
Applegate will have the rank of Lieutenant upon reinstatement.
