Borough man arrested in Hazleton drug sting
HAZLETON – A Shenandoah man is in a Luzerne County lockup after police say he was dealing cocaine in the city.
Sanyel Calzado Berroa, 22, of Shenandoah, was taken into custody by Hazleton’s Special Response Team during a search warrant on Peace Street in Hazleton on August 28.
The warrant was a result of a three month investigation by the Hazleton Police Narcotics Unit and the Luzerne County Drug Task Force.
The man, police said, sold cocaine to detectives multiple times in controlled purchases before he was arrested.
A search yielded several pounds of marijuana and additional amounts of cocaine.
Calzado Berroa was arraigned on five felony counts of delivery of a controlled substance and criminal use of a communication facility.
He was arraigned and committed to Luzerne County Prison, unable to post $30,000 bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled this morning in Luzerne County Central Court.
