Borough formally dissolves municipal authority

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - The Municipal Authority of the Borough of Shenandoah Offices.

SHENANDOAH – The Municipal Authority of the Borough of Shenandoah is no more.

Borough Council voted last Monday to dissolve the authority, a year after the water system it managed was officially sold to Aqua Pennsylvania.

Council voted in October to advertise an ordinance to dissolve the authority.

While it did not have a water system to manage, the authority and its board continued to exist while loose ends were tied up related to the sale.

The authority was formed in the 1940s when Shenandoah Borough took over the Girard Water Co. and the Citizens Water Co., merging with the borough’s own waterworks.
