Borough firefighters make quick work of west end brush fire

SHENANDOAH – A brush fire burned about a 100 foot-by-100 foot section of land before borough firefighters brought it under control Saturday afternoon.
The fire broke out just after 6:30pm, when Shenandoah Fire Marshal Joe Boris reported smoke visible from the Columbia fire station on West Centre Street.

The source of the smoke was found to be behind the Boyer’s Food Market, and a brush truck was requested.
Fire personnel from the Columbia and Rescue Hook and Ladder fire companies responded to the scene and made quick work of the fire.
By 7:00pm, firefighters were clear of the scene. Borough Fire Chief Russ Schumack said the area burned was about 100 feet-by-100 feet and no cause was determined.
