Borough approves bid for second phase of Girard Park project
SHENANDOAH – The first phase of a project to renovate one of Shenandoah’s three parks is underway, and the second phase was approved Monday night by borough council.
Council approved a bid from Spotts Brothers, Inc., of Schuylkill Haven, for Phase 2 of the Girard Park project at a cost of $49,654.
Phase 1 was awarded in July to Chilewski Enterprises, of Fleetville, at a cost of $201,828.50. Chilewski is also the contractor behind the Kaier Park project in Mahanoy City.
According to Tony Sajone, borough manager, Phase 1includes the reconfiguration of the basketball courts from an east-west orientation to a north-south orientation, as well as the installation of fencing and an ADA-compliant path.
Phase 1 is already underway, he said.
Phase 2 includes the construction and installation of new playground equipment and play areas.
The project is entirely funded by grants through the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Community Development Block Grant program.
