Body found in woodlands near Hazleton Area High School

HAZLE TOWNSHIP – State Police are investigating after a body was found in woodlands north of the Hazleton Area High School earlier this week.

According to the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office, troopers from the Hazleton barracks received several tips and patrolled the woodlands between the high school on 23rd Street and Hazle Township Boulevard to the north.

There, a body was found around noon Wednesday and a forensics unit was called in.

An autopsy was performed on the body and the cause of death was ruled blunt force trauma and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.

An identity has not yet been released.
