Body found aflame on Club 40 Road in Hazleton; tactical team searches Hazleton Heights home

HAZLETON – Firefighters called for a report of a mannequin on fire instead found a person aflame along Club 40 Road near the city line and a police tactical team later raided a home in the Heights neighborhood.
The search is connected to the fire, Hazleton Police Public Information Officer Jessica Surkin confirmed to the Sentinel near the search scene at Muir and Cedar.
Hazleton firefighters were called around 7am to the area of Club 40 Road and East Broad Streets in the city for a reported mannequin on fire, Surkin said.
No details on the victim were provided.
Hazleton Police and state troopers from the Hazleton barracks responded to investigate.
Around 2pm, the Hazleton Special Response Team along with state troopers, Luzerne County detectives, and Wilkes-Barre Police converged on a home in the 100 block of Muir Avenue in the Hazleton Heights section.
The tactical team made entry into the home and a State Police forensic services unit remained on scene along with Hazleton Police and detectives well into the evening.
Surkin said the search was connected but could not provide further information.
