Body burned in Hazleton ID’d as Nuremberg woman; death ruled homicide

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - The crossroads sign for Club 40 Road and Broad Street in Hazleton on April 27, 2025.
HAZLETON – The woman found aflame near Hazleton city limits over the weekend had been shot and was reported missing from our area, authorities said Thursday.
Jessica Lockwood, 39, of Nuremberg was identified as the victim.
Firefighters responding to a reported mannequin on fire on Club 40 Road near Broad Street Sunday morning instead found Lockwood’s body on fire and Hazleton Police were called to the scene. Later Sunday, authorities raided a home in Hazleton Heights.
Luzerne County District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce said she had been reported missing from Frackville and her cause of death was ruled a homicide via blunt force trauma and a gunshot wound.
Authorities said they do not believe there is a threat to the public and anyone with information should call Hazleton Police at 570-450-2080 or through Crimewatch.
Lockwood was also a local firefighter with the Harwood Fire Company, who remembered her as someone who “went beyond for anything that was asked of her.”
“She was dedicated to a life of selflessness, compassion, & charity,” the fire company wrote. “She will be greatly missed & fondly remembered by all the lives she touched.”
She leaves behind two children, Wyatt and Izzy, and a GoFundMe is raising money for them.
Editor’s Note: Lockwood’s residence was originally reported as Frackville. It has been corrected to Nuremberg.
