Blaze destroys Ashland duplex
ASHLAND – A double block home on Market Street was destroyed by fire Monday evening.
Firefighters were called to the 1000 block of Market Street around 8:30pm for a reported house fire.
Fire Chief Phil Groody told the Sentinel at the scene that crews arrived to find heavy fire venting from the upper floors of the duplex at 1001-1003 Market Street.
Groody said the fire could be seen throughout town, which prompted the striking of a second alarm.
Crews from Ashland, Girardville, Aristes, Atlas, Mount Carmel, Altamont, Fountain Springs, and more responded to the scene as part of the alarm assignments.
Shenandoah’s Rescue Hook and Ladder fire co. was requested later for their tractor-drawn aerial.
Groody could not confirm if either home was occupied, but said no injuries had been reported.
A cause of the fire is under investigation as well, the chief said.
