Blaze damages row homes in New Philly; block from fire last week
NEW PHILADELPHIA – A half-block and six days from a house fire Saturday, firefighters from across the Schuylkill Valley battled a row home blaze here at midday Friday.
Around 11am, firefighters were called to the 100 block of Valley Street for a reported house fire.
Flames could be seen from the roof of a home near 161 Valley Street as police arrived.
At least four homes were damaged in the blaze, which drew firefighters from all over the Schuylkill Valley, as well as Englewood and Schuylkill Haven.
One person, a teen, was injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Firefighters from New Philadelphia were assisted by crews from Middleport, Tuscarora, Mary-D, Kaska, Cumbola, Port Carbon, Pottsville, Tamaqua, Schuylkill Haven, Saint Clair, and Englewood, among others.
Some crews remained at the scene as of 4pm.
The fire was the second in six days in the small borough along Route 209. On Saturday, flames damaged another home at 189 Valley Street.
