FREELAND – A Barnesville girl participated in the PMEA District 9 Band Festival recently, representing MMI Prep.

Christina Chrin, a sophomore, auditioned as part of the 160-member band, bringing together the best scholastic musicians from Luzerne, Lackawanna, Susquehanna, Wayne, and Wyoming counties.

Chrin is the daughter of Jeffrey and Dr. Tammy Chrin, of Barnesville.

“I am so proud of Tina and all of her hard work and dedication to the MMI Music program,” Jennifer Gerhard, music director, said. “Tina serves as the clarinet section leader in our concert band, is a member of the Select Chorus, Black Diamond Chorale, and a member of the Prepper Playhouse. In addition to this performance, Tina has performed with the PA All-State Lions Band in 2024 representing our school. She will perform this May at the Lions All-State convention in Scranton. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this passionate and motivated MMI musician!”

“Tina’s achievement is a testament to her dedication and passion for music,” Theresa Long, head of school, said. “Representing MMI at the District 9 Band Festival is a remarkable honor, and we are incredibly proud of her hard work and leadership. Her commitment to excellence, both in and out of the classroom, exemplifies the spirit of an MMI Prepper.”

Chrin and seven Hazleton Area students represented the Sentinel area in District 9 band.

It was held at Mountain View High School in Susquehanna County Jan 22-23. Guest conductor was Dr. Jason Worzbyt from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
