Aurora shines over Shenandoah, northern valleys

SHENANDOAH – For the first time in presumably decades, the Aurora Borealis could be seen from Shenandoah borough early Monday morning and put on a spectacular show across the Ringtown Valley.

A G4 or severe geomagnetic storm was observed Monday, and northern lights were reported visible as far south as southern Nevada and northern Georgia in the early hours of the morning.

Locally, several people stopped by the Ringtown Valley Scenic View to check out the show.

A Sentinel photographer captured the lights visible from several points within Shenandoah borough, as well as the scenic view and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Brandonville.

For much of the show, the lights were visible to the naked eye.

Don Scicchitano, a photographer from the Mount Carmel area, reported similar sights in that area.
