ATV catches fire, sparks brush fire in Delano Township

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - The scene of an ATV fire on July 26, 2020.
PARK PLACE – Firefighters from Delano Township and Mahanoy City had to utilize a heavy-duty brush truck to access an ATV fire in a remote section of the township this afternoon.
Firefighters were called just after noon today for a report of an ATV fire a mile west of Lofty Road in Delano Township.
An updated location placed the incident closer to the village of Park Place and the Mahanoy Township/Delano Township line, with the best access point being near the pole line and Tower Road.

Firefighters from Mahanoy City’s Humane Fire Co. arrived, shortly followed by Delano Township’s two-and-a-half ton ex-military brush truck.
Using the brush truck, firefighters proceeded to the scene, which was about half a mile east along the pole line.
There, a side-by-side ATV had burned, sparking a small brush fire on both sides of the pole line access road.

In short order, firefighters extinguished the fire and resulting hotspots, and were clear of the scene by 1:30pm.
No injuries were reported in the fire.
