Ateeco to mark 12th National Pierogy Day
SHENANDOAH – One of Shenandoah’s largest employers is set to celebrate the 12th edition of the holiday dedicated to its Polish product.
Oct. 8 marks the 12th official National Pierogy Day, according to a release from Ateeco, Inc, makers of Mrs. T’s Pierogies.
The day, the company says, commemorates the day that company founder Ted Twardzik made his first sale to a Shenandoah grocery store in 1952.
“It’s hard to believe that this year marks the 12th anniversary since National Pierogy Day was declared an official holiday,” said Tom Twardzik, President, Mrs. T’s Pierogies. “It’s amazing to see how the celebration has grown over the past twelve years, and, this year, we wanted to do something extra special for pierogy lovers as well as those that haven’t ever had the chance to taste these delicious pasta pockets. Whether you’re a new or lifelong fan, we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the occasion than with free pierogies.”
This year, instead of the usual public flag raising ceremonies downtown, Mrs. T’s is giving away up to 120,000 pierogies via an online coupon giveaway.
At midnight on Oct. 8, website visitors can score a coupon at pierogies.com/national-pierogy-day/
Up to 10,000 coupons will be given out, one per household, throughout the day on Oct. 8. Further terms of the giveaway can be found here.
Ateeco is the 34th largest employer in Schuylkill County, and the second in Shenandoah, behind the Shenandoah Manor nursing home, according to statistics from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry.
In the past year, the company says they have produced 554 Million pierogies, which they say is enough to make a trans-national trip over eight times, or to circumnavigate the globe at the equator once.
