Ashland hires office clerk

ASHLAND – In a special meeting of borough council held Thursday evening, the borough of Ashland hired a part-time office clerk.
Leigh-Ann Hamilton, of Fountain Springs, was hired for the position, recently vacated by the resignation of a recent hire.
The meeting was held in the borough office in the municipal building/Anthracite Museum at 6:30pm, and only two members of the public attended.
During the public comment portion of the meeting, the two lodged complaints regarding an investigation into the theft of a dog, which Mayor Ray Walacavage directed to the police department. The resident noted that they had “exhausted all options” in having the matter handled, over a period of several months, to which council member Barry Spieles added that they should have brought it to council the first month, so the beginning of the matter would be documented and could be investigated.
After eight minutes, the meeting moved into executive session for the remainder of the meeting, lasting over one hour.
