ASHLAND – Fire crews from northern Schuylkill and southern Northumberland Counties fought a multi-alarm fire in this borough overnight.

Around 1:16am Monday, fire crews from Ashland and Girardville were dispatched to 333 Walnut Street for reports of a structure fire, first reported as a porch on fire.

Ashland Fire Chief Phillip Groody was first on scene at 1:19am, immediately calling for a second alarm for a working house fire, bringing firefighters from Gordon, Mount Carmel, Englewood, and Altamont to the scene.

Shortly after the arrival of Ashland and Girardville units, second alarm units were directed to stage at Walnut Street and Hoffman Boulevard.

The fire was declared under control at 1:59am, while crews remained on scene performing overhaul.

This incident is the fourth multi-alarm fire in the region in just over two days, with three fires occurring Saturday, in Ryan Township, Frackville, and Ringtown respectively.
