Argall to Wolf: Rising cases in cities no excuse to hurt restaurants in Shen.
SHENANDOAH – State Senator David G. Argall condemned today’s announcement by Governor Tom Wolf announcing statewide restrictions on bars, restaurants, and indoor gatherings.
“The Governor doesn’t understand rural Pennsylvania,” Argall said in a media release today. “Rising numbers of COVID 19 cases in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia do not mean the Governor should hurt restaurant and bar employees in Sinking Spring, Womelsdorf and Shenandoah.”
Governor Wolf’s restrictions would reduce indoor seating capacity for bars and restaurants to 25% instead of the current 50%. Additionally, alcohol sales would only be permitted with meals, and indoor gatherings would be limited to 25 people.
The move comes after a spike of cases in the Commonwealth’s two largest metropolitan areas: Philadelphia County and Allegheny County.
Schuylkill County added one case at the most recent update, and has added no more than ten in a single day since the end of May, according to the Department of Health’s data.
“This further ruling by the Governor—who continues to act like King Tom the first, without the approval of the House, the Senate, our local governments, or the public could be the final stake in the heart for many small business employers and thousands of employees in the small towns which I represent,” Argall continued.
The Shenandoah 17976 Zip Code, which covers the borough and the northern half of West Mahanoy Township, has 78 cases as of July 15.
