Area under Winter Storm Warning, 4-6 inches expected

SHENANDOAH – A winter storm warning will be in effect from 4am Sunday through 10pm in much of our area.

The National Weather Service at State College expects heavy snow with accumulations between 4 and 6 inches in the area. Schuylkill, Luzerne, and Columbia counties are included in a Winter Storm Warning. Northumberland is in a Winter Weather Advisory.

The heaviest snow, they say, will fall between 2pm and 6pm.

Numerous area municipalities have enacted snow bans.

Shenandoah’s will begin at 9am Sunday until 9am Monday.

No parking will be permitted downtown, on Main Street from Washington to Laurel and on Centre Street from White to West.

All cars must be moved by 9am Sunday or they will be ticketed and towed, police said.

Mahanoy City Police announced a snow ban for the same timeframe.

There, parking is prohibited on Centre, Main, Liberty Hill, and South Streets.

East Union Township’s will begin at 9am Sunday through Monday at 10am. Parking will be prohibited on Schoolhouse Road, Second Boulevard, Phinneyville Road, Green Mountain Road, Old Mill Road, Trailer Road, and East Pine Street, as well as the odd side of West Pine Street.

Frackville’s begins at 11am Sunday until the end of the storm. There, parking is prohibited along Lehigh Avenue and Oak Street.

Mount Carmel’s runs from 9am Sunday until noon Monday. They ask that drivers stay off the roads aside from emergencies.
