Aqua shares tips to avoid falling victim to utility scammers
SHENANDOAH – Aqua Pennsylvania recently shared tips to help customers avoid falling victim to utility scammers.
The water company said that, if their employees ever need to gain access to a home — for service, to change a meter, or respond to a problem — they will generally schedule an appointment.
Employees may make unannounced visits, such as to notify a customer of an unscheduled service outage, without needing access to a home; to investigate a property that has had multiple zero usage bills or an account that has not had a meter read for more than 45 days; or if a meter reader has trouble getting a remote read from outside the home.
In each case, Aqua employees will have photo identification, and the company encourages customers to confirm the employee is indeed an Aqua employee
The company said Aqua employees drive marked company vehicles — primarily white Chevrolets — with the Aqua logo, are dressed in company uniforms with the Aqua logo, and carry proper photo identification.
