Aqua issues mandatory water use restrictions for Roaring Creek system

GIRARDVILLE – Water customers in part of our area are now facing mandatory water use restrictions as Aqua Pennsylvania says the region has experienced “months of little precipitation.”
This applies to the Roaring Creek Division, serving Girardville, Gordon, Butler Township, Conyngham Township, Centralia, and Mount Carmel in our area, as well as Shamokin, Ralpho Township, Coal Township, and Zerbe Township.
It does not apply to the Shenandoah or Eagle Rock systems.
“If restrictions are not put in place, customers could potentially see service impacts,” Aqua said in a media release. “Cooperation is critical to helping us ensure an adequate water supply.”
The restrictions apply to all nonessential residential water use, including washing vehicles and power washing.
They said customers can further assist by cutting back on essential water use by following these tips:
- Don’t leave the water running when brushing your teeth or shaving;
- Take showers, not baths: Showers are more efficient and use less water, they said;
- Cut back on rinsing dishes. Scrape off the food and let the dishwasher do the rest. Only run the dishwasher when it is full.
As of January 8, Schuylkill, Northumberland, Luzerne, and Carbon counties in our area were in drought watch conditions, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. Columbia County is not.
