Altamont woman facing felony retail theft charge for eating donut in Turkey Hill bathroom, stealing drink
SHENANDOAH – An Altamont woman is facing a felony retail theft charge, accused by State Police of eating a Tastykake donut in the restroom of the Turkey Hill convenience store and swiping a drink.
Trooper Michael Blase filed the charge Friday against Sabrina Bell, 28, of 233 South Spencer Street in Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker’s Shenandoah courtroom.
In his criminal complaint, Blase said he was dispatched to the Turkey Hill at 120 South Main Street around 10am Jan. 13.
The manager of the store reported that Bell had taken a Tastykake donut into the restroom and came out without the pastry.
The manager added that she saw Bell take a Starbucks vanilla frappe and conceal it inside her coat, leaving with the drink.
The Tastykake was valued at $2.29 and the drink at $3.89, for a total of $6.18.
Surveillance video additionally showed Bell taking the items, according to Blase.
Turkey Hill management provided troopers with a license plate for the vehicle Bell left in, which came back to a woman in Mahanoy City. Troopers spoke with that woman, who identified Bell as her son’s ex-girlfriend, and said she lets her son drive the vehicle.
Bell, told by that woman police wanted to speak with her, visited the Frackville State Police barracks near Morea and, when asked why police wanted to speak with her, Blase said she confessed to stealing the drink and eating the donut.
Blase said Bell had two prior guilty pleas to retail theft charges. A retail theft charge becomes a third degree felony, regardless of the value stolen, with three or more offenses.
