All residents accounted for in Mt. Carmel nursing home fire

MOUNT CARMEL – There were tense moments Saturday morning in Northumberland County when a fire broke out at the Mount Carmel Senior Living Community just outside the borough.

Firefighters were called to the facility off the Locust Gap Highway just before 8am.

According to Locust Township Police, the fire broke out in the personal care side of the facility and the nursing home side was not impacted.

In a Facebook post, the Mount Carmel Senior Living Community reported that all residents are accounted for and safe.

“We are asking all family members to please stay home at this time,” they said in the post.

A freelance journalist at the scene said 12 residents, three staff members, and five firefighters were all taken to area hospitals.
