Actors Guild to perform ‘Misery’ this weekend
SAINT CLAIR – The Actors Guild of Schuylkill County is set to perform Stephen King’s ‘Misery’ this weekend at the Kelsey Theater.
Anthony Kurdilla, co-director, says it is the first time a play based off a Stephen King novel has been performed in the area. Misery had previously been adapted into a movie starring Kathy Bates, and then a Broadway performance.
“It’s a play about obsession, madness, and getting lost in a fantasy world,” Kurdilla told the Sentinel. “It’s very spooky.”
The performance will feature three actors — Amy Mills as Annie Wilkes, Nathan Kraft as Paul Sheldon, and Alexander Brown as Sheriff Buster.
Showtimes are Sept. 15 and 16 at 7pm and Sept. 17 at 2pm at the theater at 229 North Mill Street.
The Actors Guild has been around since 1999, but recently moved into their space — the former St. Peter and Paul Church — a few years ago.
“The idea was to remodel it and turn it into our theater,” Kurdilla said. “We’ve been holding our regular seasons here since 2021.”
They also have productions of Alice in Wonderland — which Kurdilla says is a “darker take” than popularly known– Bridge To Terabithia, and in December, Joy to the World.
