Abbatoir Road closed for downed tree

SHENANDOAH – A downed tree on the east end of town closed a road Thursday evening.

A portion of a large tree came down over the roadway, with its canopy resting on one side of Abbatoir Road at Bower Street.

The base of the downed-portion remained partially on the tree and partially on PPL Electric Utilities lines.

Multiple cars were seen driving underneath the tree and the Schuylkill County Communications Center was notified.

An hour later, after no response from emergency services, the borough streets department was notified and the road was promptly closed until PPL handles the issue.
