Abandoned Lith’s Club building undergoing demolition

SHENANDOAH – An abandoned club on Shenandoah’s east end is being brought down after years of disrepair.

The former Lith’s Club at Coal and White Streets had been abandoned for about a decade and was showing signs of collapse in the past few months. Neighbors said that a partial collapse had happened recently.

When the club disbanded or became inactive is unclear, but, in 2017, the building was advertised for a tax sale with $3,600 owed.

Borough Manager Tony Sajone said the building, once one of Shenandoah’s many social halls, is being demolished by its current owner, Belkys Ogando, of Shenandoah. She purchased the home at at a tax sale in December for $6,100.

The ongoing demolition revealed a steel skeleton frame beneath what previously appeared to be a typical wood frame row structure. One of the girders had the date 1939 on it.
