Clouds break for Girardville St. Patrick’s Day Parade
GIRARDVILLE – The luck of the Irish was finally on Girardville’s side, weather-wise, for Saturday’s postponed Saint Patrick’s Day Parade.
The day began with showers and thunderstorms in eastern Pennsylvania, which moved out just in time for crystal clear skies at midday.
The parade stepped off at noon with temperatures in the 70’s.
A variety of units participated in this year’s parade, including two pipe bands, a brass contingent, and the Shenandoah All-Star Polka Band.
Fire departments from across Schuylkill and Northumberland County also participated.
This year’s parade honored first responders. Grand Marshal Mike Kitsock drove the West End Fire Co.’s antique Mack in the parade.
Spectators lined Main and Ogden Streets throughout the borough, most of whom were donned in green.
