Main Township pursuit ends in crash
MAINVILLE, Columbia County – A Bloomsburg man is facing DUI and fleeing charges after police from that town say he led them on a pursuit in Main Township early Friday morning.
Bloomsburg Police said they attempted to stop a 2010 Ford around 1:15am at Riverhill Drive and Mainville Drive in Mainville after officers observed the vehicle driving at a high rate of speed in the 700 block of East Street in town.
Police said the driver of the vehicle, identified as Trey Harkins, 23, of Bloomsburg, stopped momentarily before accelerating at a high rate of speed eastbound on Mainville Drive.
Near East Hillcrest Drive, police said Harkins’ vehicle lost control, struck an embankment, and rolled, becoming trapped in the vehicle.
With the help of firefighters from Main Township, Espy, and Bloomsburg, Harkins was able to climb out of the sunroof.
Police said he was transported to Geisinger Medical Center near Danville and submitted to a chemical blood test. Once cleared by medical staff, he was taken to Columbia County Prison on charges of fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, driving under the influence, reckless driving and other traffic violations.
He was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Doug Brewer, Millville, and bail was set at 10% of $10,000 cash. Harkins posted bail Friday morning.
Harkins is scheduled to appear before Magisterial District Judge Russell Lawton on March 1 in Bloomsburg.
