Police: Glover’s Hill man swiped generator near former Jefferson school

SHENANDOAH – A Glover’s Hill man is facing theft charges after police say he stole a generator from a truck near the former Jefferson school.

Casey J. Margerum, 32, of 972 West Coal, was charged with theft from a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property.

Borough Police Patrolman Cody Applegate filed the charges Monday for the incident in November.

According to the criminal complaint, Applegate was called to the area of West and Centre Streets around 11:25am for a reported theft.

There, police were told that a man, later identified as Margerum, approached workers at the Jefferson School site, offering to sell them tools and claiming to be a representative of a tool company. The workers declined, saying the use tools from a different company, and Margerum said he would return the next day with tools from said company.

While walking back to his vehicle, Margerum was seen taking a Honda Eu 2000 Inverter generator, valued at $980, from a worker’s truck, placing it into his SUV at West and New York, and driving away.

Later that day, Lieutenant Travis Bowman saw the same generator listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace for $250. The listing was taken down within ten minutes.

On Dec. 2, police received video of Margerum taking the generator and on Dec. 8, police spoke with Margerum, who immediately said he did not steal a generator, and instead bought it for $300.
