Home suffers partial collapse on W. Penn; owner cited twice this year

SHENANDOAH – The rear of a home on West Penn Street gave way early Thursday morning, nearly toppling into a neighbor’s backyard.

A home at 438 West Penn Street had been in a state of disrepair for some time before the collapse.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Borough Police and fire marshals responded to the scene to make sure no further hazard existed.

The owner, Barry Gassert, 71, of Brownsville, according to the Schuylkill County Parcel Locator, had been cited by borough code enforcement twice this year because the building was in a state of collapse, on March 31 and April 1 in Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker’s office.
